Origin Story

We started the Chicken League hoping to extend the community aspect of a team sport and the supportive environment of the Blair field hockey team to younger girls (we also just love field hockey!).

While playing co-ed sports like soccer, we noticed that as players get older, boys tend to become more aggressive which leaves girls with fewer opportunities during games and less confidence on the field. In our experience, after leaving co-ed sports girls often switch to more individual sports.

We have both been competitive swimmers our whole lives and love swimming. But, as soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey players, we were surprised by the difference playing with a team made. Rather than competing individually, we had the opportunity to form close friendships and work together with our teams.

Our goal is to run an accessible league so that any girl who wants to play is able to join. In order to achieve this, our only fee is optional and we provide girls with any necessary gear.
